The Most Useful Five Social Media Websites for Entrepreneurs

Filed Under (Blogs, RSS and Podcasting, Social Bookmarking, Work From Home) by admin on 25-10-2009

The proliferation of social media sites around the Internet can be little short of mind-numbing from an online business perspective. As hard working entrepreneurs, we’re led to believe that we should be deeply involved in these websites, and that to disregard their importance could have significant ramifications for our businesses down the line. The crux of the matter is that we barely have enough time to designate to our other obligations as it is, let alone the incredible volume of time which would be required to become active members in these social media networks.

For entrepreneurs who are on-the-fly and constantly on the go, we can recommend five “must join” social media sites for you to consider:

1. LinkedIn.

This is one of the most useful professional networking sites out there. Their slogan is “relationship matters” and this site certainly has longevity, being one of the original social media outlets. Whether you’re looking for a job, trying to link up with peers or building your company, there are a host of resources available. It is best to be interactive on a regular basis and get involved with the group feature of LinkedIn. You must list your keywords accurately and clearly establish your brand so that you’re exposed to – and aware of, the best match of potential partners, business opportunities and service providers.

If you are able to interact you will get more out of your membership and establish yourself as an expert, for example by answering questions in LinkedIn Answers. The more you interact, the more your marketing message may be seen as appropriate, in measured terms.

2. Entrepreneur Connect.

Most people will be at least somewhat familiar with the widely renowned magazine Entrepreneur. This site is an extension of their talents, and it’s also a reasonably new social media network created specifically for entrepreneurs. The idea here is simply to share ideas. The magazine’s format celebrates interaction and percolation, and the network itself follows suit.

Once you’ve created your profile and engaged with the community, you can interact with professional groups according to your niche, or even create one if need be. Work toward establishing yourself as an expert and a provider of top notch content, rather than the usual self-promoting spammer. The scope of the benefits you’ll derive will come from the degree of your attentive participation.

3. Biznik.

Some entrepreneurs believe that a network that charges for membership will usually be made up of individuals who are quite a bit more serious, and much more likely to be active members too. Biznik is quite serious about its position and brands itself as the network that “actually cares about the entrepreneur.”

Three levels of membership are available; including two paid ones, up to $24 a month for the “pro” level. Their approach – go it alone, together, and it requires you to use real data in a system which utilises a human review procedure to ensure that everyone is keeping it real. This site can be a shoulder to cry on, or a source of inspiration, but once again its benefits will come from an active involvement on your part.

4. StartupNation.

This option is rather different. It is a site created by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, but it is chock full of content and advice. You’ll find innumerable articles on almost every business idea that you could envisage as well as active forums. In some respects it is also like a giant “super blog” where you can pick up so much information in one place without the feeling that you are being drawn to so many different sites during your research.

The instigators of the site, Rich and Jeff Sloan, are nationally acclaimed entrepreneurs, publishers, celebrities and award winners, and the composition of this site reflects this in its details.

5. Ecademy.

Ecademy is one of the leading social networking sites in the UK. You can create your own profile and have a certain degree of flexibility in design. This allows some individuality, the lack of which is a criticism often leveled at other networking sites. A variety of membership levels are available – up to $100 a month, although certain elements of the site are available free.

Ecademy has a more open environment than structured sites such as LinkedIn, and you will need to be proactively involved in the search for potential partners, connections or other associations. As such, the site has an active classified section and good forum potential. It seems that Ecademy is becoming more involved with Business Networking International, which could further extend the reach of the website development and the networking potential for the ongoing members.

3 Pillars of a Solid Online Business

Filed Under (Affiliate marketing, Main Content, Work From Home) by admin on 01-04-2009

In this day and age it is almost impossible to maintain a decent standard of living on one paycheck, but in a family with children it is not always feasible for both dad and mom to have a job outside of the home. Daycare expenses, the need for a second car, and too much time away from the children are some common drawbacks.

However, this is the exact situation that a Online Business works to its greatest advantage.

Online Businesses are great and can be extremely profitable but without the proper knowledge and tools you can waste an incredible amount of time and/or money which defeats the purpose you started out with, namely to make money and have time to do the things you want to do. This article was written to givethe average person like you and I a practical guideline to getting started in a home based business the right way, and to save you wasted time and money.

My experience has shown me that there are basically 3 main pillars or principles of a solid home based business.

Pillar #1: It must have minimal start up cost.
A home based business that has a high start up cost will take longer to see a profit, and as we said earlier, time is one of the things we are trying to cut down on. Minimal cost will also make the home based business more assessable to a larger amount of families or individuals who are just starting
out.
Pillar #2: It must be easy to set up and maintain.
The more complicated your home business project, no matter what it is, the more likely you are to give up out of sheer frustration before you see a profit. A business that is easy to set up and maintain will give you confidence and a sense of accomplishment as you complete each simple step in the process.
Let’s face it if you enjoyed wasting a lot of time and effort maintaining a home based business you would not be reading this article. This is about freeing you to spend time with your family and doing the things you love, not creating another taskmaster to replace your job!
You have to get first two pillars of a solid home based business right before the third will happen.

Pillar #3: It must have a quick return on investment. (ROI)
You can spend months building an online business but it there is never any real profit generated in a reasonable amount of time many people may get discouraged and give up. What is a reasonable amount of time? I would plan for a time frame on the order of weeks instead of months. Depending on the type of home based business some people have had a decent ROI within days, and unbelievable as it may sound some businesses that deal with affiliate marketing and sales can see profit as early as 15 minutes from start up!

You may be thinking to yourself “that’s too simple!”

Let me say that within these 3 pillars there is plenty of detail to keep you busy. The online business that you choose to start should definitely be something that interests you and possibly even something that you already have a measure of experience in doing. Whatever online business you get involved in make sure that it is propped up by the 3 pillars listed in this article. Do not make the mistake of over complicating your efforts or you will see very quickly that you will get bogged down with a lot of needlessly wasted time and effort.

Here’s to your online business success.

3 Ways The Economic Environment Can Put Your Online Business In The Toilet

Filed Under (Marketing and Advertising, Work From Home) by admin on 10-01-2009

Many people are glad to bid farewell to 2008.

2008 turned into one of the most tumultuous years financially that the United States has ever experienced in modern times, and what affects the U.S. economy affects most of the rest of the world economically. The U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research reviewed the numbers and decided that the United States entered into a recession back in December of 2007.

Yet, in spite of this, more people than ever want to start a work at home business. People desire the freedom of control and the power to select their own way of doing things that comes with owning a small business. And now, with the advent of things such as the virtual office and other technological wizardry, starting and running a small business can be less costly and faster to rev-up than ever before; with this, many people dream of making their fortune by running a work at home business.

Yet, it’s important to realize how the economic downturn of recent times is affecting start up attempts for new small businesses, and it’s important to look at how already established small businesses are being affected. For many may feel that these are “the best of times, the worst of times.”

For instance, small businesses across all industries are finding it harder to compete for consumer dollars during these tough times. It’s a simple principle: the vast majority of consumers feel the need to cut costs for the time being, and so apart from absolute necessities they are being far more judicious about how and where they choose to spend their money. If established businesses who already have regular customers are getting hit like this, just think about how hard it could be to get yourself established from next to nothing right now. Have you researched your service “perfectly”? Have you researched your target market? Do you have a solid, strong business plan?

Here’s another problem being faced nowadays by small business owners: the tightening of the lenders’ purse strings. Lenders always cut back on lending during recessions, and this time the recession was largely caused by bad lending practices–so they are now cutting back on lending even more as some large banks file for bankruptcy or get bought out. Small business owners need business loans. They need loans for start-up capital, and they often need more loans to finance their business expenses as they run their operation. Financing is the life blood of small businesses. Lenders will continue to give loans, of course, but now it’s much more difficult for the small business owners to qualify for them. When they do qualify, their rates will often be higher than they have been in recent years. Once again, if you are considering starting a small business, you’ll really need to know how to make a strong case for yourself and your proposed business to the lenders you approach for capital.

And that leads into yet a third problem: can you afford the quality workers that you’ll need to help you? Small business owners cannot afford lackadaisical staff; they need top quality workers, because every one of their customer relationships counts. Even though the virtual office and global outsourcing can really help in this regard, nobody is going to work for free; and the more technical or professional expertise you’ll require to work for you, the more you’ll have to pay to acquire and keep the right personnel.

These and several other problems face the prospective and the established small business owner during tough economic times. But, a resource has been established to help you through and give you the best possible advice about how to cope and make your enterprise a success. This resource is the Small Biz College (Small Business Ideas). Here you can find the most complete library on the Internet for the small business owner. Hundreds of pages of valuable content and advice from leading experts in every field; thousands of free downloads, software programs, and other resources; hundreds of webinars in the video library that address the specific issues that small business owners face every day; and much more can be found here.

A Simple Work from Home Opportunity

Filed Under (Main Content, Work From Home) by admin on 06-01-2009

Anyone looking for a simple work from home opportunity should consider starting their own Internet-based home business. Don’t believe it? Think the Internet is too complicated? Keep reading and you just might change your mind!

4 Reasons Why An Internet Business Is Simple:

1: Low overhead/low start up costs.

It doesn’t cost a lot to start an Internet business, nor does it cost much more to maintain one.  You can get set up for under $200 in most cases. Also, as with any business, you can use the principle of leverage for growth by investing your profits.

2: Plenty of market opportunity.

Almost every conceivable market has a home online these days. You can reach potential customers all across the world, any time of the day or night. Plus, there is a range of options when it comes to what you sell and how you sell it. You can sell physical goods to people, or you can sell ‘digital’ products that customers download to their hard drives.

You don’t have to own these products, either. Instead, you can earn money promoting other people’s products via affiliate programs for the most hands-free type of business possible.

3: Ability to automate most business functions.

The Internet allows you to automate just about everything, including: lead generation, payment processing, product delivery, follow ups and more. This means more time for you to spend doing the things you really enjoy, as your business (once properly set up) will virtually run itself and make the sales for you.

4. Proven money-making methods already in place.

Tactics such as affiliate marketing represent proven money-making methods that rely on the fundamentals of real marketing. There’s no question about what works, how it works or why it works. Once you understand how to target profitable markets and get your offer in front of those markets, you practically have a license to print money.

The only way an Internet-based home business could be any simpler is if you could just pay someone to do all the work for you, then send you the checks.  But I think you already know that doing it yourself is half the fun!

Network Marketing Leads – The Best Network Marketing Leads To Target

Filed Under (Marketing and Advertising, Network Marketing, Work From Home) by admin on 06-11-2008

The landscape is changing in the MLM industry, especially the way you source network marketing leads. When MLM lead generation was conducted mainly offline, network marketing leads were gold; they were harder to find and when you got one they were protected and guarded with lots of jealousy.

And who could blame them. A lead back then meant an opportunity to add someone to your down line and take another step towards creating residual income. However, while many have built great businesses using these methods, the rejection involved was such a major killer of people’s hopes and dreams.

So fast forward to today and with the internet such a dominant player the task of finding MLM leads has been made a lot easier. No, it’s not a piece of cake because there is definite skill required in sourcing leads online but the truth is, the word rejection is less of an issue…much less.

And forget about buying those unresponsive third party leads. They multiply the rejection effect enormously and can contribute to leaving your business in a hurry.

Third Party Network Marketing Leads

The truth is, buying third party leads can be a shortcut to the poor house and a quick exit from your network marketing business. The primary reason is because you have no control over leads; how they were sourced and worse, who has used them.

In many cases, these leads will have done the rounds several times before they land in your lap and what do you think the person on the other end of the line is going to say when they get approached about a business opportunity for the “umpteenth” time in a month?

You get the picture.

Fresh leads are what count. Better yet, fresh, targeted leads who haven’t been approached by anyone else in the past few months and who actually seek you out.

What am I saying?

Well, the truth is, you don’t need to be chasing down and harassing prospects if you don’t want to. The internet has made it possible to build a solid network marketing business without ever having to meet your prospects face to face.

Getting network marketing leads with a genuine desire to hear what you have to offer is as simple as putting up a website or piece of Web 2.0 property and promoting it in the right markets.

The old school network marketing prospects generation process shouldn’t be eliminated from your agenda completely because there will be times when you meet people and the subject of making money will come up but don’t waste your precious time doing it full time.

Let the power of the internet do the attracting for you 24/7 and more importantly, it will bring people into your sales funnel from all over the world.
