If you want to use Squidoo to promote your website or products that you sell, then you will want to make sure that your are optimizing how the search engines will view your Squidoo lens (page).
The Google ads placed on your site are done so automatically by Squidoo, so you have no control over these. As they do not charge for their services, this is how they make their money. The problem with this is that people will click on these ads and therefore leave your page, usually never to return.
There are options you can control your Squidoo pages, or lenses as they are known as. You make the decision as to what keywords you are going to optimize your lens for. You can then optimize your lens in such a way that it will attract Google’s search engines. Three percent is the optimal keyword density you should use on your site.
When you add keywords to the lens, be sure to bold them in a couple of instances so that the search engine knows you are placing relevance on these words. There are also other ways of highlighting keywords in the text and one of these is to italic the words. Your main keyword should also be placed as close to the beginning of the text as possible, as well as close to the end, again in bold or italic.
Placing the main keyword in the title and url is another way of making sure you stay in favor with the search engines. If you have to separate words in the url, it is best to do so using hyphens instead of underscores. Also, it is a great idea to make sure you link all your lenses on the blog roll, which makes the task of Google finding the sites easier.
You have to really try and get many backlinks to your lens for it to rise in the rankings. Comments on other users sites is a good way of getting backlinks. If you use the above tips, then it will not be long before your lens begins showing up on Google.
